Neck pain.

Stiff when you turn to check a blind spot, aching after a day at the screen, pain that creeps into your shoulders or up into your head. Most neck pain is mechanical, which means it can be measured and changed.

Why necks hurt

  • Hours looking down at a phone or laptop
  • Joints in the neck and upper back that have stopped moving well
  • An old whiplash or sports injury the body still works around
  • Disc irritation, sometimes with pain or tingling into the arm
  • Stress, poor sleep and a pillow that doesn’t fit you

How we find the cause

Your posture analysis measures how far your head sits in front of your shoulders, and every inch forward adds load to the neck. Add a nerve scan, and x-rays in our office when your exam calls for them, and we can see where the strain is and why.

How we treat it

  • Specific adjustments to get the neck and upper back moving, using gentle low-force techniques when they suit you better.
  • Soft-tissue work for the muscles that have tightened to protect the area.
  • Strength and posture work for the deep neck muscles, so the change holds.
  • Decompression when a disc in the neck is involved.

What helps right now

  • Raise your screen to eye level.
  • Every hour, tuck your chin and gently draw your head back for a few breaths.
  • Heat for stiffness, ice for a fresh flare.
Get urgent care first if your neck pain follows a car accident or fall, or comes with fever and a stiff neck, a sudden severe headache, dizziness, trouble speaking, or weakness or numbness in your arms.

From CREW patients

“I was in horrible pain with a neck nerve. The staff and doctors are amazing and very caring. Within a week the doctor had me able to move my neck again and 85% of the pain was gone.”

Common questions

Is it safe to have my neck adjusted?

For most people, yes, in trained hands. We examine first, image when the exam calls for it, and use gentle low-force techniques when they’re a better fit for you.

Will my posture actually change?

We measure it at your first visit and again every twelve visits, so you’ll see the numbers move rather than take our word for it.

What about my pillow?

Ask at your visit. The right height depends on whether you sleep on your back or side, and it’s a quick fix that helps.
